How to Find the Right Tires for your Vehicle

posted on
At Pueblo Tires & Service, we try to make the tire purchasing process as painless as possible for our customers. We offer the best prices and the best service, but we can’t do anything about how many options there are for tires these days. The choices can be overwhelming, so we are going to explain the different types of tire in this blog post to make it a bit easier on you when it’s time to buy your next set of tires!

Size

Choosing a tire size is usually the easy part because you want to get exactly what is listed in your vehicle’s manual optimal performance. Your manual may say something like “P255/60R17 102V.” The first part, P255/60R17, you don’t want to change. P means “passenger car tire,” 255 means the tire is 255mm wide, 60 means the aspect ratio of this tire is 60, R means this is a radial tire, and 17 means the wheel diameter of this tire is 17 inches. The second part of the tire size, 102V, indicates the load index and speed rating of the tire. You have some flexibility in these categories.

Type

Tires come in four main categories: all-season, performance all-season, ultra-high-performance/summer, and winter/snow. Most people choose to go with all-season tires because they perform well in all weather types and last much longer than summer tires. Because South Texas doesn’t usually get a lot of snow, most of our customers will be choosing between performance/summer and all-season tires. Unless you drive a sports car, you usually can’t go wrong with all-season tires.
